Shura Council elections took place in two stages beginning on January 29, 2012 and ending on February 22, 2012. According to Abdel Moez Ibrahim, head of the Egyptian Electoral Commission, turnout for Shura Council elections did not exceed 10% or a total of 6.4 million votes cast. Of the 264 seats on the council, 180 are elected, while the rest will be appointed by the next president after presidential elections are held.
